Cello in for some setup work. The owner thought it sounded a bit odd. What neither of us expected was to find that it didn’t actually have a soundpost! Hopefully the difference will be like night and day. Also some tweaks to the string heights and peg fit to make it more comfortable to play.
I gave this violin a new bridge last year, now it’s back for a new soundpost to try and optimise the string balance. Also experimenting with E string options, which is always worth doing even when the rest of the string set seems to be doing what it should.
This bass has certainly been through the wars a bit but a new bridge and soundpost and machine heads should hopefully give it an improved quality of life. Big fan of the gut strings on there, they put the fancy synthetics to shame!
Violin in for a scratch retouch and some setup tweaks earlier this week. This one has been in before and it’s a very delicate balance between a muddy bottom end and a harsh top end, but hopefully it should sound a bit more even now.

After a long weekend away, it’s back to slow but steady progress on my new violin. Getting into the mindset for that heavily-fluted Amati arching. Seeing how much I can get done before my next customer job
