This nice little Baby Taylor guitar came in for some setup work. The nut slots were too low causing buzzing at the first fret. Also the action was very high and couldn’t be make any lower at the saddle. Finally the truss rod was too loose leading to additional action height, and couldn’t be tightened without introducing fret buzz.
The solution? A fret level and reducing the height of the bridge, allowing the saddle and truss rod to be adjusted appropriately.

This violin needed a new bridge and soundpost fitting and a fresh set of strings. (In fact the old bridge had actually been lost at some point, so that was a very easy choice!). The soundpost fit was a bit of a challenge due to the very steep arching, but we got there in the end.

Lovely little violin in for some setup work last week. This one was a bit of a puzzle to fit the bridge on due to the bass bar position and neck angle, but by an incremental process of small adjustments I managed to get a reasonable result. This along with a bow rehair for the owner should provide a much more rewarding playing experience.

Cello in for some setup work. The owner thought it sounded a bit odd. What neither of us expected was to find that it didn’t actually have a soundpost! Hopefully the difference will be like night and day. Also some tweaks to the string heights and peg fit to make it more comfortable to play.

I gave this violin a new bridge last year, now it’s back for a new soundpost to try and optimise the string balance. Also experimenting with E string options, which is always worth doing even when the rest of the string set seems to be doing what it should.

This bass has certainly been through the wars a bit but a new bridge and soundpost and machine heads should hopefully give it an improved quality of life. Big fan of the gut strings on there, they put the fancy synthetics to shame!

Violin in for a scratch retouch and some setup tweaks earlier this week. This one has been in before and it’s a very delicate balance between a muddy bottom end and a harsh top end, but hopefully it should sound a bit more even now.
